Fishing in Alaska with Glacier Bay Sportfishing provides you with the unique privilege of capturing and returning home with the finest seafood in the world.
Unlike many operations in Alaska I am compulsively careful when it comes to the fish you catch. The difference between excellent food and poor quality fish starts the moment your fish comes aboard.
After killing your prize I immediately bleed it, draining the blood before it is absorbed by the muscle tissue prevents discoloration and the "fishy" taste that repulses people.
I place your catch in a fish hold that is constantly flushed with cold water until I can clean it and put it on ice in a cooler.
At the end of the day your catch will be vacuum packed and frozen.
You will receive your fish! At the end of your stay the frozen fish will be loaded into wet-loc boxes or coolers for your flight home.
The wet loc boxes will keep frozen fish from thawing up to eighteen hours at room temperature. At the airport you can check these boxes in as baggage.
I highly recommend bringing 48 quart coolers for bringing your fish home. They do a better job of keeping your catch frozen, they are more rugged, they are the same price as wet-loc boxes, and they are reusable. A 48 court cooler filled will keep you below the 50 pound weight required for checked baggage.
