The Fishing Boat

The Stoic

For your Alaska fishing trip, you will fish aboard the Stoic, a custom built 30-foot Almar Sounder.  The spacious cabin has a large vee-birth, a dinette table, and a private stand-up bathroom.  The huge cockpit was designed to provide fishermen with ample space and safety.

The Stoic is powered by a Yamaha 300 HP four-stroke outboard for clean and reliable operation. A Yamaha 9.9HP four-stroke provides quiet trolling.

The Stoic is fast, smooth riding, comfortable, and safe. The ultimate fishing machine!

Special features aboard the Stoic include a large fish hold with a water flushing system to keep your catch chilled.  A stove and barbeque make for nice lunches with fresh fish.  There is a sink with fresh water, a large cooler for keeping your drinks on ice and another for keeping your fish fillets on ice.

All US Coast Guard required safety equipment is updated and operational. The Stoic has a depth sounder, GPS plotter, radar, and a VHF radio.

Bait & Tackle:

Twenty-one years of experience has shaped my tackle selection. I build my own fishing rods to ensure you have a comfortable rod ideally suited for the fishing method and species pursued.  I build my salmon rods on Lamiglass blanks.  I build my halibut rods on Seeker blanks. Penn 965 Internationals with 14lb test monofilament are employed for salmon.  Shimano Tekota 700 level-wind reels loaded with 50lb Spectra are employed for halibut and lingcod.  Shimano spinning reels are coupled with Loomis rods.

Only the highest quality hooks, leader material and terminal tackle are used aboard the Stoic  - there is no excuse for poor equipment.  I make my own pipe jigs, jig heads, and sinkers.  Fish have an uncanny ability to get away from fishermen.  On my boat, it will not be because of poor or poorly maintained equipment!
