This unique Southeast Alaska community rests on a grassy plain where Glacier Bay and Icy Strait converge.
Gustavus is fifty miles west of Juneau and is surrounded by Glacier Bay National Park. Icy Strait is the northern entrance to the Inside Passage that extends to the Puget Sound.

This rural community of nearly 500 has a strong appreciation of its honest and open country lifestyle.  Fishing, tourism, and construction are the primary occupations in Gustavus.

The Salmon River runs through town, where occasional visitors include moose, eagles and maybe a bear or two.

Gustavus has a small airport that receives daily Alaska Airlines jet service via Juneau during the summer and is the base for several local airlines offering small commuter planes.  Gustavus has 15 miles of road - the longest stretch is between the airport and Glacier Bay National Park headquarters at Bartlett Cove.
