The Fishing Boats
The Stoic is fast, smooth riding, comfortable, and safe. The ultimate fishing machine!
Special features aboard the Stoic include a large fish hold with a water flushing system to keep your catch chilled. A stove and barbeque make for nice lunches with fresh fish. There is a sink with fresh water, a large cooler for keeping your drinks on ice and another for keeping your fish fillets on ice.
All US Coast Guard required safety equipment is updated and operational. The Stoic has a depth sounder, GPS plotter, radar, and a VHF radio.
The Obsession is the new addition to Glacier Bay Sportfishing in 2011. The Obsession is a 27 foot Sea Sport powered with a 250 HP Yamaha Outboard and a 9.9 HP Yamaha Outboard auxiliary.
The Obsession features a comfortable cabin with a dinette, a nice V-Birth, and a flushing head. The cockpit is large and open with plenty of room for fishing and a large fish hold.
The Obsession is equipped with top of the line electronics including Radar, GPS/Plotter, VHF Radio, and Depth Sounder. All Coast Guard safety equipment is new and in working order.
Captain Steve Miley operates the Obsession. Steve has been fishing in Alaska since 2009 having previously worked in Kodiak and Seward. Steve has done an outstanding job operating the Obsession, earning praise from his guests, from his peers on the Gustavus Dock and the community of Gustavus. I look forward to his great attitude and continued growth as a part of Glacier Bay Sportfishing.
Bait & Tackle:
Twenty-one years of experience has shaped my tackle selection. I build my own fishing rods to ensure you have a comfortable rod ideally suited for the fishing method and species pursued. I build my salmon rods on Lamiglass blanks. I build my halibut rods on Seeker blanks. Penn 965 Internationals with 14lb test monofilament are employed for salmon. Penn 320GTI level-wind reels loaded with 50lb Spectra are employed for halibut and lingcod.
Only the highest quality hooks, leader material and terminal tackle are used on the Stoic - there is no excuse for poor equipment. I make my own pipe jigs, jig heads, and sinkers. Fish have an uncanny ability to get away from fishermen. On my boat, it will not be because of poor or poorly maintained equipment!
